Indian Cricket: Suresh Raina- An attacking middle order player


Indian cricketer : Suresh Kumar Raina also known as Suresh Raina is a former Indian International Cricketer born on 27th November 1986 in Muradnagar, Uttar Pradesh. He used to be one of the best all rounder and a good left handed batsman in the middle order along with the right arm off spin bowling which helped the team India many a times to open the door for the victory. He used to play all formats of the game. In the absence of the captain he used to lead the team as a perfect captain. He was the second youngest player ever to be the captain of team India. He was also known by the name ‘Chinna Thala Raina’ which means the right hand of the leader of the team. He is also known for his excellency in fielding and also for cheering the teammates. Suresh Raina- An attacking middle order player

 Since Raina had interest in playing cricket so he decided to move to Lucknow to attend Guru Gobind Singh Sports College at the age of 14. He played well and became the captain of the U-16 team of Uttar Pradesh in 2002. He was selected for the U-19 tour to England because of his exclusive performance which was seen by the selectors of Indian Cricket Team. He then toured to Sri Lanka in the same year for the U-17 team.

He made his Ranji trophy debut in the year 2003 from Uttar Pradesh against Assam but didn’t play any matches in the following year. He was also debuted for the List A cricket against Madhya Pradesh at Indore in the year 2005 where he scored 16 runs, he continued playing for different teams and finally in the Ranji trophy 2005-06 season he came up with the score of 620 in 6 games. He also toured Pakistan in the U-19 Asian ODI championship where he scored three half centuries including 90 of 38  after which he was awarded with the Border Gavaskar scholarship at the Australian Cricket Academy.

Raina started playing Indian Premier league from the year 2008 where he played for the Chennai super kings team. He was awarded as the Best Fielder by the BCCI after the finals of 2010 IPL. He made a half century in the finals leading to the victory of the CSK in the 2010 IPL. He continued playing under the captaincy of the former Indian team Captain M.S Dhoni until the year 2015. In the 2016 he signed for the Gujarat Lions after the suspension of CSK. He became the captain of the team and scored a total of 399 runs in 15 innings. He was named in the Cricbuzz IPL XI of the tournament in 2017 and Cricinfo CLTR20 XI in the year 2013. He joined the CSK team again in the year 2018 and continued playing till 2021 after which he became the fourth player in the IPL history to play 200 matches.

  • First ever cricketer to reach 5000 runs in IPL
